Raaaaaaaaaaawr.....12 hours later and this is what i have XD
So yes, this is my work in progress on my new Sitar, and I luff her very much so far! Thank you to everyone who has suggested names, and I have now decided on what she will be called. But I'm not revealing her name till she's finished!
I've had several people ask me how to make a sitar and so I'm gonna state here roughly what I do. Warning though, when it comes to making props I usually make it up as I go along, and my props aren't the most sturdy or perfect! But anywho....
Ingredients list: Four piece of A1 Foamboard, Glue gun, Spray paint, Paint, PVA glue, Insulation foam, Modrock and newspaper.
I made a basic flat sitar from foamboard (which is God's gift to cosplayers by the way.) To get a general 2D idea of how tall it will look, this is the basic skeleton of the sitar. I made the skeleton in three pieces; the base, the neck and the spiky top.
Make sure, if you're making your sitar like mine, that you put some sort of pole all the way through the center, this will keep the pieces together and also make it sturdier!
After that I carved down the insulation foam and filled out the back of the sitar's neck and base, sticking it in place with mah glue gun. Then the paper mache began! This takes the longest part, espeically on a BIG prop like this one!
To get a rounded base, I filled it out with scrunched up bits of newspaper then smoothed it with stripes of paper mache. So yes! Keep going until you have completely covered your sitar in paper mache to give it that smoothed over look. (BTW YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE AT LEAST 5 LAYERS OF PAPER MACHE!)
For the keys, and faceboard I used more foamboard and sprayed it! The diamond that attaches the neck to the base was shaped out of more modrock.
Then I sprayed my entire sitar white, this means people won't be able to read the news off your instrument! XD
So that's where I am right now in the sitar progress! Next I've gotta paint her and add all the extra bits. When I put up my news W.I.P I'll continue this tutorial.
Until then if you have any questions feel free to ask away and I'll try my best to answer!
"Then I sprayed my entire sitar white, this means people won't be able to read the news off your instrument! XD" ... Many LOL's ensued, and I'm typing this while rolling around on my floor

In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

If I were working on this, I'd spend seven of those twelve hours procrastinating.
